This is the first year that the Annual G-Force Leadership Summit was held in Houston, and we are pleased to announce that 5 G-Force students were able to attend the Saturday event held at The University of Houston--Main Campus!

Approximately 100 G-Force students representing 22 HISD middle schools and high schools were in attendance.

Highlights from the Summit!

-- UH track coach Leroy Burrell, former Olympian gold medalist and former "World's Fastest Human," was one of the guest speakers at the Summit. Other guest speakers included Tyrone Smith, former NFL Player and co-founder of First and Goal, Inc.; and John Robinson, the Director of Education & Youth Development for the Houston Area Urban League.

-- All students were provided with a complimentary tour of the UH campus and attended one of two workshop sessions:
1) G-Force Events -- where students learned ways to organize different college-promotional events at their own schools
2) Building School Spirit and College Hype -- where students learned ways to create excitement and promote college hype

-- All students also attended a college panel, where they were able to hear from and ask current college students questions about college life and college applications.

The day wraps up with an opportunity for students and their parents to mingle informally with the panel participants and take part in a drawing for numerous door prizes, including two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors only. To be eligible for the drawing, participants must complete all four breakout sessions and they must be present to win.
